I practice and live an Ayurvedic lifestyle.. and I'm currently studying to become a Chopra Center Certified Perfect Health Ayurvedic Instructor & Lifestyle Coach. My Ayurvedic journey all began when I had developed a severe digestive disorder many years ago. After meeting with many physicians and being tested by a variety of specialists.. I was vaguely diagnosed with IBS. Treatment included prescribed meds and a conventional fiber enriched diet.. in which my condition had worsened rather than improve. Western medicine had failed to provide a treatment that was best suited for me as an individual. Therefore, I began exploring more holistic and alternative options. I was introduced to the accent practice of Ayurveda "The Science of Life." Ayurveda is a 5000 year old healing system that originated in India and is considered to be the oldest system of traditional medicine. It focuses more on the prevention and the underlying causes of illness and disease, by maintaining a natural balance throughout the mind/body/spirit connection.. according to your distinct nature. The concept of Ayurveda is that we are all composed of the 5 great elements (the Mahabhutas) Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Space. Universally paired together, these elements determine our Constitution.. or in Vedic philosophy our "Dosha" (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). It takes into consideration that no two people are alike, and that healing occurs through the power of the senses. For optimal health, It is imperative to keep our Doshas balanced through mindful living. This can be achieved naturally through proper nutrition and lifestyle modifications based on your Dosha's individuality, characteristics and needs. Ayurveda teaches us that the same natural elements that created us.. are the same natural elements that can heal us.
